We are positive on oil stocks this winter. Here’s why

The financial markets are currently looking a little rockier than they were a year ago, with investors having already seen many of the returns from a reopening of the global economy in the wake of the pandemic, Covid is still out there, however, and will continue to exercise a disruptive influence over the coming months.

Over the next few weeks we will be adding some tactical trading opportunities to our in-house portfolio to reflect what we see as a change in the dynamics of the market over the winter months. We are already seeing a big squeeze in the energy market, for example. and disruptions to supply chains, petrol stations, medicine deliveries, you name it.

While the pandemic recovery story was the tide that lifted all boats, investors will need to be a little cannier in their selections in the coming months. There will be some fundamental stories that we think will continue to bear fruit over the years ahead - e.g. green energy - but what we are concerned with here is making money in a more volatile market over the short term.
