However, it has been a challenging period for the transport and logistics sector having to deal with the dual roadblocks of Brexit and the Coronavirus pandemic over the past few years.
This week we start a series on the Transport and Logistics sector by looking at the road haulage industry and will in future iterations examine the Rail, Courier and Marine sub-sectors.
A shortage of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers in 2021 caused major disruption across the country, which had a knock-on effect to ports, rail and passenger transport. This shortage was in part a reaction to UK leaving the EU after Brexit. Last week, we discussed the effect both Covid-19 and Brexit had on the construction sector, and many of the problems that builders experienced over the last few years was also felt by trucking companies.
