Share Tips Update: Time to trim that Indian market exposure?

Before we get into our stock picks from August, I thought I'd take a look at what has been going on with some of our existing tips. Regular readers will know my tips are graded according to a number of factors, mainly relating to market cap, risk and the expected time-frame in which that stock's story is expected to play out.

In August we further pruned our short term trading list, closing our shorts on Tesla [NASDAQ:TSLA] and D'Ieteren [Euronext:DIE]. Our short position on Severn Trent [LON:SVT] looks like it may be starting to bear fruit as the expected publicity around Thames Water from the struggling UK water sector start to make their presence felt. Our gold trade continues to make money.

In the long term buy & hold list we sold Michelmersh Brick Holdings [LON:MBH], which has been on that list for quite some time. The latest numbers have not been well-received by the market and we are not seeing a plan from the new management team that is going to turn the stock around fast enough for our liking. We also started trimming our Indian exposure selling JP Morgan Indian Investment [LON:JII] on the back of proposed US tariffs on India which does somewhat change that story.

That said we've seen some good returns in August from some of our other bets, with shout outs to Airtel Africa [LON:AAF], Meritz Financial [KRX:138040] and Tsukada Global [TYO:2418] in particular! Also one of my favourite European stocks of the last five years, Implenia [SWX:IMPN], which was up over 14% in August and has now doubled in value in the last 12 months.
